The World Food Programme is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize 2020 for its efforts to combat hunger, for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas and for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.世界粮食计划署被授予2020年诺贝尔和平价格奖，因为世界粮食计划署努力消除饥饿，为改善在受冲突影响地区实现和平的条件所做出的贡献，以及在防止将饥饿用作战争和冲突武器的努力中发挥的发挥的推动作用。World Food Programme是由普通名词组成的专有名词，作为句子成分时，前面要加上the，类似于the United States。

如果四个for并列的话，那么结构应该如下：
for..., for..., for...(,)and for。但是可以发现，第三个for前面并没有逗号，因此第3个for并不属于这个并列结构，实际并列的是1、2、4三个for，分别表示WFP在三方面的贡献。
接下来分别看一下三个并列的for：
①for its efforts to combat hunger
efforts to do sth是书面语中很常见的一个名词短语，表示在...方面的努力。相当于try/attempt to do的名词形式，比如：
He has tried to quit smoking, and it pays off.他尝试戒烟，并且有所收获。
→His efforts to quit smoking pay off.
combat在这里表示防止，减轻(to try to stop something from happening or getting worse)，就相当于非常常用的fight against。其宾语通常是贬义词，比如问题。如combat global warming减缓全球变暖 | Exercise can help combat the effects of stress.运动有助于减轻压力的影响。
②for its contribution to bettering conditions for peace in conflict-affected areas
better在这里加上了ing，说明是作为一个动词。better作动词，相当于improve，是个非常正式的书面语，如better the lot of workers改善工作者的境况。better在这里之所以用动名词形式，是因为前面的to充当介词作用。
那么这里的its contribution to可不可以去掉，直接变成for bettering呢？contribution表示sth that you do in order to help sth be successful。也就是说，改善和平条件的还有其他个人或组织，不止WFP一个。同理，动词短语A contribute to B表示A是B的其中一个原因，也就是说还有其他原因，因此如果A直接导致B，则不能用A contribute to B，而要用A result in/lead to B。写作中需要注意这一点。
刚刚通过并列结构的形式判断了这句中的for并非并列成分。除此之外还可以通过常用搭配来判断：
condition与介词for是常用搭配。如the necessary conditions for children’s healthy growth儿童健康成长所必需的条件。掌握常见词的介词搭配，对于读懂长难句非常重要。
conflict-affected是个名词+过去分词组成的复合形容词，来源于动词短语：(be) affected by conflicts→conflict-affected。再比如：poverty-stricken(非常贫穷的)。=(be) stricken by poverty。在加上连字符变复合词时，名词一般要使用单数形式。
③for acting as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict
for引导状语表示原因时，实际上就相当于because原因状语从句的省略，如
The factory was blamed for polluting the environment.=The factory was blamed because it polluted the environment.
出现这种省略的前提条件就是，because从句的主语和所修饰的主句主语(The factory)相同，因此开头的句子写的是：
The World Food Programme is awarded the Nobel Peace Prize...for acting...
而不是
The Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to the World Food Programme...for acting...(X)
实际上，为了使这个for状语与前面两个(for its efforts to/for its contribution to)更具对称性，可以将这里的动名词acting as替换成名词形式：its role as：
for its role as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict
driving force表示主导力量。还有个类似的写作表达：driving factor主导因素。可以用来引出主要原因，如The driving factor behind job losses is technological change and the consequent lowering of demand for low-skilled workers.失业的主要原因是科技变化以及由此导致的对低技能工作者需求的降低。
in efforts to在这里就是字面意思：在...方面的努力。有个形似的固定短语：in an effort to do，用于表示目的，放在动作之后，类似于in order to。如The company has laid off some workers in an effort to save money.该公司为了节省成本，已经开除了一些员工。
这句话中的the using of能不能改为using呢？
由于prevent后面不能直接接动名词：prevent doing sth，而是prevent sb/sth from doing sth这种形式，因此不能写成prevent using hunger...(X)。
