In the second quarter, although economies were under lockdown, house prices rose in eight out of ten high- and middle-income countries.很多富裕国家的房价都在暴涨，尽管这些国家的感染率正在呈现第二次上升。在第二季度，尽管各大经济体处于封锁状态，但每10个中高收入国家中有8个房价出现上涨。
see在这里的意思并不是看见。而是表示客观事实的发生。其英文释义为：if a place or a period of time sees an event, the event happens in that place or during that time。
从这个外刊例句中可以提取出see表示客观事实的句型：
时间/地点+see+sb/sth do。这里的作为补语的do使用原形，不随人称和时态而变化。可以这样理解：句子的主要时态已经由动态动词see表示了，而do与see的时态是同步的，因此无需再用do表示时态了。
see后面除了+sb/sth do...，也可以是名词成分。如：
Many countries have seen a rise in the popularity of digital payments in the past few years.过去几年很多国家的电子支付快速流行起来了。
这句话也可以写成：
Many countries have seen digital payments take off in the past few years.
see的这一用法在很多作文的开头段都可以用到。比如写到近些年人们生活方式发生了很大改变，可以说：
Recent years have seen dramatic changes in people's lifestyles.
就相当于：
People's lifestyles have changed dramatically in recent years.
on the plus side
①Almost everyone there relies on aid. ②Access to traditional sources of finance, like banks, is extremely limited and expensive. ③On the plus side, the Rwandan government at least does not tax the enterprises run within the camps.那里几乎每个人都依赖援助。资金的传统获取渠道(如银行)极其有限而且价格昂贵。不过好在，卢旺达政府至少不向难民营内经营的企业征税。
前两句讲的很明显是disadvantages，而第③句讲的则是advantage，at least就表示了这层转折关系。on the plus side表示的就是“好的一面是”，用来引出事物的好处或好的一面。
plus在这个短语当中是一个形容词，用于讨论事物的优点或好处。
与plus相反的词就是minus。on the minus side即“坏的一面是”。
再比如下面两段关于管理者作用的讨论：
on the plus side前面一句话：There is good news and bad news for those who believe that managers matter.(对于认为管理者重要的人来说，既有好听的话，也有不好听的话) 就相当于这两段的topic sentence。第二段用了however一词进行转折，引出相反的一面，即缺点。
这里的however和之前那段中的on the plus side都可以替换成on the other hand。on the other hand并非一定要和on the one hand同时使用，也经常单独使用，表示相反的一面。如：
Electronic reading is more convenient than the tradition kind. But on the other hand, excessive exposure to screens may lead to failing eyesight.电子阅读比纸质阅读更方便，但是过度接触屏幕可能会造成视力下降。
there is more to A than B
A vacation gives workers a chance to recharge their mental batteries. Heading to a new location allows employees to clear their thoughts. After all, there is more to life than spreadsheets and sales forecasts.假期给了员工一个休息的机会。去一个新地方可以让员工理清思路。毕竟，生活中除了电子表格和销售预测之外还有其他东西。
spreadsheets and sales forecasts在这里实际上就是代指work。
从这句话中可以提取出一个漂亮的写作句型：
There is more to A than B.
其中，B与more构成比较结构，而不是B与A构成比较结构，因此不能在B前面加上to：There is more to A than to B. to在这个特殊结构中表示一种从属关系。
more to A than B的意思是：B是A的一部分，但是A除了有B之外，还有别的东西。如：
There is more to traditional education than rote-learning.传统教育并非只有死记硬背。
再比如一句著名的歌词“生活不止眼前的苟且还有诗和远方的田野”就可以翻译成：
There is more to life than everyday concerns. Also important are poems and distant fields, meaning a romantic idyll.
